Charge/Statement of Purpose

To serve as a connection between the 91大神 campus community and 91大神PD. The council is composed of students, faculty and staff, representing a cross-section of our campus community. We seek to share the 91大神 community's input on matters pertaining to police service and campus safety issues. The council makes recommendations to the Chief of Police on various issues or concerns involving the department, the 91大神 community, and our neighboring Huntsville Community, reviewing and advising on actions and activities with the goal of improving the communication, programming, and operations of the 91大神PD.

Membership

The Council is a representation of the students, faculty and staff of The University of 91大神 in Huntsville. The President or President鈥檚 designee will appoint the Council Chair and approve the final membership.

Responsibilities

  • To advise and make recommendations to the Vice President for Finance and Administration and the Chief of Police concerning the provision of police protection and services within the university and the surrounding Huntsville Community.
  • To promote and further strengthen community policing.
  • To discuss and advise on issues related to the campus climate.
  • To promote and support public awareness of the university鈥檚 police services and programs.
  • To serve as a liaison between the police department and the community.

Guidelines

  • At least one quarterly regular meeting on such day of the month at such time as may be determined by the Council. Additional meetings may be held as often as the Council deems necessary.
  • Meetings will be closed with the exception of public forums held as necessary and attendance may be restricted to the campus community.
  • The Police Advisory Council does not serve as a police review or accountability board and does not formally review specific police matters.
  • Members are asked to serve as liaisons with their departments/ constituencies to promote and improve communication on issues/ topics relevant to the Police Advisory Council.
  • Members are encouraged to submit agenda items in advance to allow others to prepare for the meeting.
  • All members are asked to honor confidentiality.
